Interim Prosthetics

Barwon Prosthetics and Orthotics have proudly been the sole prosthetics provider to Barwon Health since 1999, over this time we have strived to provide the best level of care to our patients through our clinical expertise, compassionate communication and the facilitation of client centred goals.

Our interim Prosthetic services include;

Pre-surgery consultations – In conjunction with a rehabilitation consultant, you will discuss the treatment and prosthetic options available to you. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions about your upcoming operation and what occurs post-surgery
Removable Rigid Dressings (RRDs) – Post operative devices used to manage swelling, protect the residual limb and assist wound healing. These are used in readiness for a client’s first prosthesis and in early stages of rehabilitation.
Interim prosthetics – Providing patients with their first prosthesis post-surgery, this may be as an in-patient of the McKellar Centre or as an out-patient attending the McKellar centre regularly from home.

Rehabilitation as part of a multidisciplinary team – BPO work closely with the Barwon Health Allied Health staff to achieve the best outcomes during your rehabilitation. this can involve the input of the amputee physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker, podiatrist and psychologist
Transition to definitive prosthetics – BPO initiates a seamless transition to definitive prosthetic prescription when you have reached the appropriate stage of your rehabilitation.
